1. What is the ATIPPA?
- is a high-level public interest act,
- is intended in its access provisions to protect and advance the interests of the public as a whole in transparent, accountable and excellent governance,
- while at the same time protecting the privacy rights of individuals.
2. What is the Statutory Review?
The Statutory Review is a mandated review of the ATIPPA to happen every 5 years and intended to provide a forum:
- for the public expression of their views of the legislation,
- what the concerns are with the legislation, if any, and
- recommended legislative changes, if any.
What the Statutory Review is not
- an adjudicative forum or process,
- a place for the airing of individual disputes or grievances, whether in the past or ongoing, and
- assessing facts on individual experiences in using the ATIPPA process.
3. What are submissions supposed to be?
Submissions
- are positions on the legislation put forward by the public and public bodies,
- are sent to the ATIPPA Review Committee only, not other public bodies, government entities or the media,
- reflect the objectives of the act, and
- the details in the Submissions focus on the legislation.
