Introduction

The Committee maintains this website to help you obtain information about its terms of reference and work. We are committed to protecting the privacy of individuals and organizations who visit and use this website. In carrying out our work, we will conduct our business in compliance with the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act, 2015 (ATIPPA, 2015).

Collection of personal information

Personal information means recorded information about an identifiable individual, including the individual’s name, email address, and personal opinions. ATIPPA, 2015, outlines other examples of personal information: http://assembly.nl.ca/Legislation/sr/statutes/a01-1.htm

When you visit our website, the following information is logged:

  • Internet Protocol (IP) address (e.g. 123.45.67.890)
  • Browser type and version (e.g. Netscape 8.0, Explorer 7.0)
  • Page(s) visited
  • Date and Time of page(s) visited

IP addresses are unique numbers assigned by Internet Service Providers (ISP) to all devices used to access the Internet. The IP address, on its own, may not identify an individual; however, in certain circumstances, it could be used to identify an individual using the site. For this reason, we consider the IP address to be personal information, particularly when combined with other data automatically collected when a visitor requests a web page. This information can include the name of the page you visited and the date and time of your visit.

Cookies

When you visit or browse a website, a small piece of data may be sent from the website and stored on your computer, known as cookies. You can adjust browser settings to deny cookies or to warn you when a website is about to place a cookie on your hard drive.

When you use this website or contact us via email, we may collect personal identifiable information about you that was provided voluntarily (e.g., through sending an email or filling out a form).

If you provide information to the Committee for our consideration, we may identify you by name when we publish our final report in the interest of transparency. If you wish to remain anonymous, please indicate so and the reasons for the same. The Committee will, at its discretion, decide if the same will be anonymous and notify you of the decision. Even if the Committee decides a submission may be anonymous, the same is still subject to the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act, 2015 (ATIPPA, 2015).

This information is collected under the authority of section 61(c) of the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act, 2015 (ATIPPA, 2015).

The Committee protects personal information by making reasonable security arrangements against such risks as unauthorized access, collection, use, disclosure, or disposal. Security measures are integrated into the design, implementation, and daily operating practices as part of the Committee’s ongoing commitment to protecting your personal information.
